Plan the work
Start with an opening and room schedule. Record wall lengths, door swings, flooring thickness, cabinet ends and any places where trim meets tile or millwork.
Define the scope
Confirm whether material is paint-grade MDF, finger-jointed wood or stain-grade lumber. Agree on profiles, joint treatment, fastening, filling, caulking and who primes and paints.
Include the project location, current photos, plans if available, approximate dimensions, desired finish and timing. For renovations, show adjacent surfaces that remain.
What careful installation involves
Walls and floors are rarely perfectly straight. A careful installer establishes visual lines, scribes where necessary and keeps reveals consistent instead of forcing every piece to a theoretical dimension.
Review before sign-off
- Check alignment and visual consistency from normal viewing positions.
- Operate every door, drawer or moving component.
- Confirm joints, fasteners and surfaces are ready for the agreed finish.
- Record any deficiencies and who is responsible for correction.
