Plan the work
Photograph and measure the pieces to remain. Identify salvage opportunities, discontinued profiles, lead times and the limits of matching aged or site-finished material.
Define the scope
Record demolition boundaries, substrate repairs, material matching, touch-ups, painting and protection. Small areas can demand more setup and custom fitting than their size suggests.
Include the project location, current photos, plans if available, approximate dimensions, desired finish and timing. For renovations, show adjacent surfaces that remain.
What careful installation involves
Mock-ups help choose between an exact reproduction, a compatible profile or a deliberate transition. Scribing and scarf joints can make local repairs less conspicuous.
Review before sign-off
- Check alignment and visual consistency from normal viewing positions.
- Operate every door, drawer or moving component.
- Confirm joints, fasteners and surfaces are ready for the agreed finish.
- Record any deficiencies and who is responsible for correction.
