Plan the work
Record handing, slab size, wall thickness, floor clearance, swing conflicts and hardware before ordering. Existing openings may need jamb correction or a custom-sized slab.
Define the scope
Clarify whether the scope includes removal, jambs, stops, casing, lock preparation, hinges, painting and disposal. Fire-rated assemblies must retain their required components.
Include the project location, current photos, plans if available, approximate dimensions, desired finish and timing. For renovations, show adjacent surfaces that remain.
What careful installation involves
The installer checks the rough opening and establishes a plumb hinge side before tuning the head and latch reveals. Hardware is tested after casing and floor conditions are considered.
Review before sign-off
- Check alignment and visual consistency from normal viewing positions.
- Operate every door, drawer or moving component.
- Confirm joints, fasteners and surfaces are ready for the agreed finish.
- Record any deficiencies and who is responsible for correction.
