Plan the work
Review issued drawings, specifications, reflected ceiling plans and hardware schedules. Confirm site access, delivery windows, storage, protection and noise restrictions.
Define the scope
The scope should identify supplied and installed items, approved shop drawings, samples, blocking, fire-rated requirements, closeout documentation and deficiency timelines.
Include the project location, current photos, plans if available, approximate dimensions, desired finish and timing. For renovations, show adjacent surfaces that remain.
What careful installation involves
Sequence matters: field dimensions follow framing, millwork installation precedes some finishes, and hardware commissioning occurs when doors and environmental conditions are stable.
Review before sign-off
- Check alignment and visual consistency from normal viewing positions.
- Operate every door, drawer or moving component.
- Confirm joints, fasteners and surfaces are ready for the agreed finish.
- Record any deficiencies and who is responsible for correction.
