Plan the work
Inventory what the unit stores. Confirm screen sizes, equipment ventilation, cable paths, outlet access, shelf spans and how the installation meets baseboards and crown.
Define the scope
Separate shop-built cabinetry from site-applied trim and finishing. Document interiors, backs, hardware, lighting, counters, paint and responsibility for electrical work.
Include the project location, current photos, plans if available, approximate dimensions, desired finish and timing. For renovations, show adjacent surfaces that remain.
What careful installation involves
Units are levelled and secured to appropriate structure, then scribed to adjacent surfaces. Fillers and face details absorb site variation while preserving even openings.
Review before sign-off
- Check alignment and visual consistency from normal viewing positions.
- Operate every door, drawer or moving component.
- Confirm joints, fasteners and surfaces are ready for the agreed finish.
- Record any deficiencies and who is responsible for correction.
